When it rains, it pours-that expression is so completely applicable to my current life. My little family is searching for a new place to live. E is taking over our current abode and my little sister (from another mister) is moving in with us while she goes to grad school. Some may question this move, but it’s so great for all of us involved-our family gets to rent a nicer place, K gets to live with people she knows (and homemade meals for the most part), and E gets to hang out with his auntie! Its a win win situation. However, our current state of searching for a place is quite a losing battle.
We thought it was going to be perfect, we would just move upstairs in the house we currently live in, and that would be that. Oh no, things aren’t that easy. Our landlord was initially interested in working something out with us. He then found out that he had people who were willing to rent the same apartment, for the same amount of time, and he would NO have to delead it. Who do you think he chose? The people who have been his tenants for 3 years? Hell no! Money talks…and our landlord listens. I can’t even begin to talk about what a lying, evil, selfish person our landlord is (we used to really enjoy him, heck we were even thinking of having him and his wife over for dinner). As A said it best, this is apparently what he plans on telling him when we move out for good, “I understand you’re in a tough situation-you are the only one working to support your wife and baby, but so am I. When you rented the apartment to new people, think of who you were selling down the river. You were selling yourself down the river.”. Now, with the usual ali-isms that occur, this quote may not be accurate (I had never heard the expression that A used before, so who knows). People suck so bad.
And so we found this amazing place that we wanted to rent-we just had to figure some things out before agreeing to rent it. I emailed the landlady back a few times, no response. Of course, I emailed her back after A and I had gotten completely amped to live in this new place. So, she relisted the apartment again today after I had been emailing her for several days-so I emailed again. She said she’s renting it to someone for a few months but that if we were still looking then, to let her know. We have a flexible situation as our lease isn’t technically up until Sept 1st, however it would be completely awful for K to move and sublet, and then move in with us so we can find a place for Sept. But it’s such an odd situation!
So where we stand now, we’re waiting to hear back about this place we love, while also continuing the search, which is quite a tough one…it’s really hard to find apartments that don’t look like a bunch of frat guys lived in them. Ew.
