I just love our CSA.  I am still working my way through the box from a week and a half ago.  I made some pickled beets this weekend and am currently making some celeriac soup (seriously, the ugliest vegetable EVER).  We have winter turnips, potatoes and tons of carrots left.  I’m in desperate need of ideas for carrots!

Another CSA pick up

This past weekend was our second (out of three) pick up for the CSA we belong to.  Can I just say it’s a lot of food…5.5 pounds of carrots, bunches of collard greens, leeks, swiss chard, onions, sweet potatoes, potatoes, I can keep going.

BUT, I am loving getting it.  It’s so much fun to think up all these new recipes to use the food (mostly it has been soup, but I’m currently roasting a chicken with sage, sweet potatoes and onions from the CSA) and eating way more vegetables than we usually do.  I was also extremely worried about the possible waste.  I don’t think I have thrown much away at all…possibly nothing yet.

I’m definitely a little less enthused with the most recent pick up, possibly as I have not finished off the first (still have some beets, sweet potatoes, and onions left) but still so excited about all the fresh local veggies.

I definitely recommend joining a CSA…wonderful food, supporting local farms, and eating local food.  A win win win situation.

A busy couple of days…

Some good news on our family front….

Our annoying neighbors from downstairs have moved out-gone completely.  Who knows who will replace them, but for now, it’s quiet.

We are joining a CSA winter share!  YEA!  Even though we’ll be getting 35-40 pounds of veggies once a month for 3 months, I am very excited at what this has to offer.  I have been extremely interested in getting my family to eat only ‘whole’ food and also canning produce in the summer/fall to eat in the winter months.  Even if I can just do a little, I’ll be happy.  I made some blueberry jam on Sunday night from our Saturday trip to pick some blueberries and I made some dill pickles this afternoon from some pickling cukes I bought at a farm up in NH.  I feel such a sense of accomplishment when I finish these things-seeing them all pretty in a jar!

But today has been a long day.  It has been raining the whole day, E and I are stuck inside, and E is being SO SO SO clingy today.  He won’t really play.  When he’s awake, he just wants me to carry him around.   All 25 pounds of him.  Jeez.
